Description

18cm tall Martian Tripod as illustrated by Alvim Correa at the very beginning of the 20th Century, for a special ‘deluxe’ edition of H. G. Wells’ novel in the French Language.  Correa and Wells knew each other quite well and the later is reported to have highly praised the former’s conception of the Martian fighting machine.  This kit will also fit very well with the N-gauge (1/160) railway accessories and figures.  Legs cast in white metal for added strength.

Boxed-up Kit.  In Production.

I was stunned to find this kit. I’ve always loved the Correa illustrations – there’s an element of macabre whimsy that will be a real challenge to capture and translate to 3 dimensions. This kit is an honest-to-goodness ecstatic surprise of precisely the sort one always hopes to find during these interminable searches, but so seldom does.
OK, I’m actually the rankest novice – this kit can wait until I have skills sufficient unto the task. I feel compelled to tell you that I took the plunge and ordered from eBay before looking at this site. Profuse and sincere apologies if this is not the way you’d prefer, but I saw the kit and was seized by an irresistible impulse to order. After looking things over, I know I must return here. The “Secret Treaties” decal sheet is unspeakably cool. You guys rock. /s/ K.

A wonderfully faithful kit of the 1906 Henrique-Alvim-Corrêa’s design of the Martian fighting machine from H.G.Wells science fiction classic The War of the Worlds. During publication in periodical form between April to December 1897 for the Pearson’s Magazine, H.G.Wells took a disliking to Warwick Goble’s design of the machines and to the point that Wells vented his frustration in the books narrative. However Wells had a liking of Corrêa’s and expressed how he admired his Martian designs when they were used for the 1906 printing of the novel. The model here is a superb replica of the machine and has equally superb detail that matches the quirkiness of Corrêa’s work.
